Manchester Arndale’s Digital Shop Window
Making searching for Christmas gift inspiration more fun
Early bird shoppers arriving at Manchester Victoria Station on Black Friday were the first to see and play with a giant screen featuring a colourful kaleidoscope of brilliant Christmas gift ideas – all available at the city’s Manchester Arndale Centre.
Manchester Arndale want to be recognised as the centre of the city, part of the city’s proud heritage. Yet as a shopping centre, they don’t have the luxury of a shop window to excite people with everything they offer.
Our creative strategy was to use digital out of home to give Manchester Arndale the asset that all their retailers capitalise on, particularly in the run up to Christmas.
We created a beautiful, interactive Christmas shop window display for them, and placed it right in the heart of the city where weekend shoppers come flooding in. Our idea was brought to life with help from our friends at Manchester-based Rhythm.
The installation, which was on Manchester Victoria Station concourse from 24th to 26th November, used Kinect technology to trigger a huge product kaleidoscope when people walked in front of it. With hand gestures, they could explore different technology, makeup and toy gifts, and create beautiful patterns on screen. Everyone who stopped and played with the window got a Manchester Arndale tote bag, stuffed with goodies and offers.
For me, it was so exciting to see everyone play with the window at the station. The gift kaleidoscopes really caught the imagination of Black Friday weekend shoppers of all ages. It’s now a contender for one of the best Christmas windows in Manchester - and the festive season has only just begun.
